Born in 1946 Mick first went to Art school in 1963, studying at Harrow school of Art on a one year foundation course. Mick subsequently graduated from The London College of Printing after studying photography for 3 years and became a freelance advertising photographer.
Working in central London for many of the prominent advertising agencies, he worked on some well known accounts including Benson and Hedges, Guinness, Danish Bacon and Walls ice cream. This led to becoming a TV commercials director, working in the UK, Europe and the USA.
In 2000, with considerable help from his wife, he finally ‘saw the light’…he sold up the studio, downsized and went back to art school, where it all began. He spent a wonderful 3 years at The City and Guilds School of Art, graduating with a 1st in Fine Art Painting. His final show was a sell out and he hasn’t looked back since.
Mick now has a studio in Fish Island, London E3, overlooking the Olympic site. He has exhibited in numerous galleries in London and the south of England, is represented in Phoenix Arizona and has shown at the Mall galleries and the Affordable Art Fair.
Mick is married with two grown up daughters who are both in the creative industry, has 2 grandchildren, a cat …and a dog called Billie.
Hackney WickED Art Prize Winner
Over Hackney WickED edition 2015, Unit G Gallery put up a competition in partnership with the festival organiser and received 20 applications from local artists willing to participate.
Mick was chosen from some pretty tough competition on the basis of his most appealing use of colour and composition to reveal the essence of otherwise typical local streets and waterway landscapes, in a nevertheless different, extra-ordinary and yet degenerative light; Mick’s paintings of these scenes aligned well with the mission of the new Gallery to show and sell some of the best art and design being made in East London. The three equally imaginative runners-up for the 2015 Art Prize were the diverse work of artists Alex Heaton, Vanessa Mitter and Wilfred Wood.
