Trinity Tristan

Trinity Tristan is a Hackney based visual artist and creative director. Drawing on the lucid palettes of exotic landscapes, her aim is to express her personal relationship between an external and internal persona. Trinity opts for painting to express this less tangible inward identity before curating these ‘findings’ in order to explore their meanings in a more concrete reality. By exposing this adaptation of her own dialogue, Trinity aims to challenge the viewer into exploring their own sand beneath the sea.
Trinity graduated from Fashion And Performance Sportswear Design before going on to study an MA in fine art print at Falmouth, Cornwall. During this time she founded a screen printing workshop located by the harbour, a sanctuary from which developed a small business in designing and selling painted and printed silk scarves to London boutiques. After moving to London in 2013, she began designing prints for fashion before taking up roles in art direction for major fashion, film and music organisations. It was after falling ill for a time when Trinity began her canvas work; where began a process of scavenging old film sets before dismantling and re-assembling them to form bespoke large scale canvases. This reminiscences on a childhood spend by the sea, rescuing and resuscitating driftwood into make-shift structures. This sense of temporality has greatly influenced Trinity’s unbinding relationship with identity and formed a constant thread throughout her work ever since.

Abigail Moffat from Saatchi Gallery Magazine had the chance to visit Trinity in her studio for a chat which she wrote up here.
